- Cover doorways into other rooms with plastic. Simple painter's drop cloths work well. Pack everything that won't be needed into boxes and store in a different location. This will keep things dust-free, and will make it easier to load your room back into the new cabinets when the project is completed.
- Keep essential items handy. These are the things that you will be using every day, even without your old kitchen. This includes your basic food that can be micro waved, the essential condiments, cereal, several microwave-safe dishes and utensils, dishcloths or disposable cloths, dish soap, paper plates and cups, coffee, coffee pot and sugar/creamer, paper towels, napkins, and garbage bags.
- You will be without water in the kitchen for a short time. You may need to do dishes in another sink or the bathtub for awhile. You might want to set up something outside if the weather is nice, or perhaps an area in a bathroom that can be used for a short time.
- Many contractors will wait until cabinets have arrived before tearing out your current cabinets. Be sure to clarify this point with your contractor. If you take your old cabinets out too soon, you may inconvenience yourself for a longer time than is necessary.
- Set up the microwave and refrigerator in another area, along with a table for preparation. This is important since you will want to prepare basic meals while your project is in progress.
- Stockpile restaurant coupons for the nights when you really want to eat out. Eating out every day can become too expensive. Now is the time to take advantage of those great offers you've been waiting to try.
- Relax and rely on us. We have been through this many times before and we know that there will be an amazing new kitchen or bathroom once your project is done and the room is cleaned up.
